Using the data of lightning monitoring system (LMS), the statistics of ground flash density (GFD) and lightning current distribution (LCD) from the year of 2010 to 2014 in Shanghai district are made, respectively. Combined with the typical lightning withstand level (LWL) and lightning faults records of 500kV transmission lines, the lightning zones map (LZM) with 0.01°×0.01° mesh for Shanghai power grid are plotted, which is composed of the GFD map and the 500kV lightning hazard maps of shielding failure flashover and back flashover. The results show that the power grid lightning hazard distribution shown in LZM is correlated well with the historical lightning faults of 500kV transmission lines, which improves the pertinence and effectiveness of lightning protection measures for power grids and realize the differentiation technology and strategy of lightning protection for transmission lines.
