Simulation research on the effect of surface material on gas-filled objects scattering

Lots of study on bubbles scattering has shown that bubbles have much higher target strength than solid targets in low frequency condition. Based on this fact we can use gas-filled objects to simulate bubbles, achieving high target strength in low frequency condition. But with the existence of surface material, the scattering characteristics of gas-filled objects can be different with bubbles. In this paper, we analyze the scattering strength of gas-filled objects with different surface material and compare the results. The surface material is assumed to be rubber so that its acoustic characteristic is similar to fluid. The simulation shows that surface material can substantially affect the resonant frequency and decrease the target strength.
