Measurement of the diameter of optical fibers by the diffraction method

On the basis of solution of the problem of the electromagnetic wave diffraction by a transparent fiber with the circular cross-section, we have deduced expressions linking the positions of the first diffractive minima and diameter of the fiber. These equations have been used to determine the diameter of the fiber. Scattered-field pattern have been recorded with a digital camera. The obtained picture has been digital processed for determining positions of the first minima of the scattering pattern.
