Uncertainty Continues in Federal Elections New GPA GPSA PAC to Heighten Midstream Advocacy Efforts on Capitol Hill
The contest for presidential nominations is still uncertain and the race for the White House still ahead with few clues as to whichrncandidate will be the best for midstream interests.rn“If you get somebody who’s unfriendly to our industry in the White House, then you’re usually stuck with four years of theirrnpicks to head the regulatory agencies,” said Matthew Hite, vice president of government affairs for GPA Midstream.rnWhile Republican lawmakers are usually seen as friendlier to petroleum-related industry, Hite said GOP frontrunnersrnbusinessman Donald Trump and Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz are mostly unknowns on issues that affect GPA Midstream members.rnBoth Trump and Cruz have said they would undo many of the Obama administration’s environmental efforts, particularly thosernset in motion by the Environmental Protection Agency. A survey of the candidates by the American Energy Alliance found thatrnboth oppose a carbon tax, but that Cruz is against the ethanol mandate for gas at the pump, while Trump supports it.rnTransportation Act,” known as the “FAST Act,” which includesrnestablishing a transparent, streamlined federal permittingrnprocess, allowing oil and gas companies to move forward withrnmuch-delayed energy and infrastructure projects.
