In Voltage regulator modules, efficient regulation at any power level is an important factor. A voltage regulator provides regulated output voltage at the output in accordance with the input. Microprocessors demand current ranges from peak current to relatively low quiescent current and also it requires higher maximum output currents from switching regulators over a wide output current dynamic range. This work proposes a comparison between different approaches of ripple reduction and improvements in efficiency based on the buck converter. A brief analysis of a two phase converter is carried out and the design methodology is presented, focused for achieving acceptable efficiency by compromising ripple reduction.
