Emerging technologies, such as mobile payment systems, use the power of innovation to improve the lives of people. The concept of Development is used to understand how these improvements in people's lives take place. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), technological breakthroughs promise innovative solutions to the most pressing global challenges of our time. Key characteristics of emerging technologies for development are: 1) they lead to improvements in people's lives, 2) offer new ways of conducting business, and 3) support indigenous practices that support the environment.
