This paper presents a passive power filters project to harmonic mitigation and power factor correction on the auxiliary services of a Thermoelectric Power Plant (TPP). This work aims reduce the harmonics of 5th, 7th, and 11th order generated by a three-phase rectifier (50.7 kVA) which load a battery bank to feed the command panel of the TPP. This study is based on the IEEE Std. 519-1992 recommendations and real data obtained by measures in the TPP are employed for the design of shunt tuned RLC series filters. The PSIM® software is used to simulate and validate the auxiliary electric system model of the TPP. Results obtained from analysis of the filter performance concerning harmonic reduction and power factor correction is presented. Thus, the improvement of the power quality of the TPP is shown through of a comparison between the original electric system and the electric system with the filters proposed.
