As mobile devices become increasingly more advanced and essential for everyday life, minimizing power consumption of these devices has also become one of the critical design concerns, especially for those mobile devices that support "always-on" applications, such as a driving mode detection application. In this paper, we present a design, implementation, and deployment of an energy efficient mobile platform for end consumers. Taking the driving mode detection application as an example, we give the platform design and technical implementation details. Our solution not only offers a clean and portable design for all sensor-related applications, it is also proven that it can significantly reduce power consumption. In fact, based on live measurements, for driving detection applications, the designed platform provides up to 73.11% energy consumption reduction, and up to 18.43 minutes of prolonged battery life. To the best of our knowledge, the platform is the first solution to provide a clean, portable, and fundamentally energy efficient architecture for Andriod sensor related applications. It has been deployed in Motorola commercial devices.
