In recent years, as the renewable energy source (RES) is being rapidly developed in China, some operational problems associated with integration of large wind power have gradually emerged. Demand response has become a vital way to reduce the impact of RES fluctuation and maintain electric power balance. In this paper, the effects of DR are evaluated from the three aspects of cost, reliability and impact of wind power fluctuation on the power system. Firstly, we review the current researches on the integration of renewable generation and the corresponding applications of demand response. And then we establish the model for the wind power accommodation with demand response. Lastly, the feasibility of two types of demand response programs, peak-valley time-of-use tariff and interruptible load, for the integration of wind power is investigated in a case study on the IEEE24-bus system with 26 generators.
