A compact dual-band microstrip antenna is proposed for 2.4GHz/5.2GHz wireless local area networks (WLAN) application. The antenna consists of main radiating patch and mushroom-like EBG structure cells, where these mushroom-like EBG structure cells greatly influenced the center frequencies of dual-band ability. The relative impedance bandwidths and the peak gains of the 2.4GHz band and 5.2GHz band reach 33.5%, 16.0%, 2.6dBi and 3.1dBi, respectively. The antenna achieves dual-band operation with good impedance matching and radiation behavior. Antenna measurements are presented to validate the simulations.
