With the rapid development of wind power generation, it is significant to study the impacts of wind farms on power system reliability. A general probabilistic model of a wind farm is proposed in this paper. The wind farm is modeled as a conventional unit with multiple states. The model could be used in conventional power system adequacy assessment utilizing analytical or simulation methods without increasing the computational complexity. A case study is carried out on IEEE-RTS79 test system to assess the reliability benefit of wind farms using state sampling Monte Carlo technique. The results show that the forced outage rate couldn't be ignored when suffering harsh condition. The access capacity and access node should be analyzed to find the most appropriate scheme.
