The development of synthetic membranes had always been inspired by the fact that the selectiverntransport through biological membranes is enabled by highly specialized novel polymer membranes.rnDue to good performance, good chemical resistance, wide pH tolerances, easy to be fabricated intornmembrane and broader range of pore sizes, polyethersulfone (PES) has been widely used for differentrnindustrial applications. But inside these advantages, PES membrane fouling is a considerable problemrnthat instigates researchers to solve this via different manners. Recently, successful attempts have beenrnmade to add nanoparticles with different particles sizes in polymer structures in membrane synthesis.rnThis paper reviews the role of metal oxide nanoparticles in PES membrane structures and improvingrntheir applications in water treatment.
