Wavelength stabilized single-mode lasers emitting in 1030–1070 nm spectral range and producing high power are required as a light seeding source for MOPA fiber laser systems. Fiber lasers in MOPA configuration operate either in CW or pulse mode using directly modulated seed laser. Short (<10 ns) high power optical pulses are preferred for precise material processing such as micromachining, drilling or scribing. Moreover, narrow line width (<0.2 nm) lasers are especially attractive for nonlinear frequency conversion to produce green or ultraviolet light which gives more options for material processing. Distributed feedback (DFB) lasers offer narrow spectral line width and can be modulated with pulses as short as few tens of picoseconds [1]. Here we report on development of high power first order DFB lasers emitting at wavelengths around 1060 nm and providing >750 mW of linear power in CW and >3.5 W of peak power in pulse mode.
