This paper addresses the issue of packet scheduling with spatial division multiplexing (SDM) techniques of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna in the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) downlink. Considering the restricted condition of selecting SDM techniques, a novel packet scheduling algorithm with quality of service (QoS) support in LTE downlink MIMO system, named QoS-DMO, is proposed. QoS-DMO extends the time-frequency domain packet scheduling algorithm to the spatial domain, which takes into account multiple QoS factors (e.g., data rate, delay, BER, etc.) for real time service and nonreal time service and attaches importance to the BER influencing on selecting SDM technologies. Simulation results show that the proposed QoS-DMO algorithm achieves significant improvement of performance compared with that of the DMO algorithm.
