The Seaholm Wastewater Redevelopment Project Phase 2 is part of the City ofrnAustin’s overall program to enhance wastewater service to the growing downtown area.rnDannenbaum Engineering Company was assigned to design the Project, which willrnconnect the existing downtown wastewater system to the Downtown Tunnel, also currentlyrnunder construction, and relieve the Shoal Creek lift station. Brierley Associatesrnwas retained by Dannenbaum to act as the subconsultant to design the trenchless portionsrnof the Project. The overall project consists of the installation of a total of approximatelyrn1,989 linear ft of wastewater line to be installed by microtunneling through thernSeaholm Development in downtown Austin, Texas. Due to the proximity of existing utilities,rneasement constraints, and groundwater level, the wastewater line was designedrnto be installed using microtunnel boring techniques. The microtunneling consists of 7rnreaches, with the longest reach being 709 feet. The microtunnels are all expected tornbe constructed below the permanent groundwater table, within the alluvial soils of thernColorado River Terrace Deposits and more recent alluvium. Rubble and debris fromrnthe construction and operation of the Seaholm Powerplant are known to be presentrnin the general area. Construction of the first phase of the Project is expected to start inrnthe first part of 2011.
