A CUT-AND-COVER TUNNEL THROUGH LAKE ELIZABETH BART WARM SPRINGS EXTENSION PROJECT IN FREMONT, CALIFORNIA

A cut-and-cover tunnel section of subway for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Districtrn(BART) is under construction from south of BART’s Fremont Station through LakernElizabeth in Fremont, CA. This tunnel is located near the Hayward Fault and in a waterrnstorage supply aquifer. The unique hydrogeologic conditions of the project site havernposed challenges to the project in terms of design, constructability and control of constructionrnscheduling and budget. This paper will describe the design and constructionrnof the cutoff walls and the grout plug from the designer’s and construction manager’srnview points.
