Ultrahigh pressure elbow is a key part of ultrahigh pressure pipeline, its size of the ultimate load determines the safe operation of pipelines. Finite element analysis software was used to study on the effect of K and R/D on the plastic ultimate load of ultrahigh pressure elbow. The results show that the pipe diameter has no effect on plastic ultimate load when K and R/D are constant, and the plastic ultimate load is very close to straight plastic ultimate load when the R/D greater than 5;and the plastic ultimate load with the R/D increased and gradually close to straight plastic ultimate load when K is constant. Based on the results of the study, approximate ultimate load formula of ultrahigh pressure elbow was given, which can be direct applied in engineering.
