Valve clearance is essential to the engine efficacy, so proper valve clearance is required in engine assembly. In this paper we present the definition of valve clearance and the revised selecting fundamental of valve tappet, and the equipment called Valve Tappet Selecting Machine. The Valve Tappet Selecting Machine for four-cylinder overhead camshaft internal combustion engine has been developed based on the definition of the valve clearance and the revised selecting fundamental of valve tappet, which is consisted of the Cylinder Head Measuring Machine and the Camshaft Measuring Machine. The repetition and the veracity of the Valve Tappet Selecting Machine were tested, the data suggest that the measurement is high accurate, valve clearance will be under control strictly with the Valve Tappet Selecting Machine.
