Study on Benefits of Vegetation Restoration Mode on Slope of Highway in Otindag Sandy Land in China

In order to explore and optimize the protection system for highway construction in sandy land, four kinds of vegetation modes were applied to upwind slope of 207 national highway section of Inner Mongolia in Otindag sandy land of China. These were Salix sand-barrier mode (M1), sand-barrier mode (M2), sand ridge sand-barrier mode (M3) and Surface fixing mode (M4). Based on field investigation and observation, the paper comprehensive analyzed of pattems of control effect from the restoration of vegetation conditions, wind and sand blocking effects, soil properties and other aspects. The results show that: vegetation restoration effects of the mechanical sand barriers among these modes significantly better than that of soil coagulant. Mode 1 was the most significant mode on vegetation restoration which tended to diversification and stability. Besides, Survival rates of Pinus sylvestnis var.mongolica Litv. of mode 1 and 2 were higher than that of Model 3 and 4. From the view of wind and sand benefit, four kinds of patterns were greatly weakened the near surface wind speed and increased the surface roughness, in which mode 2 was the best. Furthermore, Soil organic matter and total N has improved significantly besides of mode 4.
