Construction of power generation facilities is challenging and unique. Asrngovernments and businesses look to expand power generation facilities, meeting schedulernand cost goals given the small amount of qualified resources available will be an increasingrnchallenge. As a result, construction professionals have to be apprised of the increasingrnchallenges faced by contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in constructing alternativernenergy projects. Ideally, the bid price and schedule should account for the special needsrncontractors and suppliers may encounter on power projects regarding quality, submittals,rnscheduling and coordination, procurement, transportation, change orders, delays andrndisruptions, unforeseen conditions, nonconforming construction documents andrnmaterial/equipment fabrication. This article provides considerations for what contractorsrnand suppliers need to consider when preparing and negotiating costs, schedules andrncontracts for working on power generation construction projects.
