Preparation and Corrosion-resistance of New Type Aluminous Cements Containing Magnesium Aluminate Spinel

In this paper, new type of calcium aluminate cements containing magnesium aluminate spinel were prepared using mixtures of dolomite and alumina by a reaction-sintering process. The phase constituent of the synthesized product was inspected by X-ray diffraction(XRD), the microstructure and phase distribution were observed using a scanning electron microscope(SEM)with energy dispersive X-ray(EDS)spectrometry. The setting time,refractoriness and bonding strength of new type of calcium aluminate cements were measured by means of standard method, corrosion-resistance test of new type of calcium aluminate cements were also investigated by static crucible method, the corrosion-resistance difference were studied between new type of calcium aluminate cements and Lafarge calcium aluminate bonded corundum castables. The experimental results show that: the new type of calcium aluminate cements consists of MA, CA and CA2 phases, and phases distribute uniformly, bonding strength and setting time ate normal. The corrosion-resistance and refractoriness was improved due to the introduction of MA spinel, which has high melting point and prevent the slag from penetrating.
