Many operators are starting to leverage digital oilfieldrntechnologies. These technologies positively impact productionrnby accessing and integrating relevant in-time well data tornoptimize operational processes and equipment, identify assetrnunderperformance, and anticipate undesirable events.rnMaximizing the return on any investment in the digital oilrnfield demands a robust understanding of all parts of the assets,rnfrom the reservoir through the surface facilities. It is no longerrnsufficient to simply move data in real time; we must be able tornmanage, interpret, and distribute relevant information acrossrnan organization to proactively address production challenges.rnTo meet these challenges, business and technical solutionsrnmust address:rn?rn?rn?rn?rnThe end-to-end workflow, from the sensor through tornreservoir decisions.rnThe use of domain expertise to ensure timelyrnprediction of, and appropriate reaction to, productionrnissues.rnEffective application of domain expertise throughrnrelevant in-time (R/T) collaborative access tornpertinent well and reservoir information.rnOperational costs, reliability, security, and ease ofrnimplementation.rnThis paper reviews the compelling events in our industryrnthat are driving the evolution of new digital productionrnworkflows and considers some key criteria in thernimplementation of the digital oil field. It focuses on thernresponsibilities of the oilfield service provider for the deliveryrnof reliable data, information, connectivity, and related servicesrnto support effective decision making. The paper shows thatrn“well-centric” digital workflows are already benefitingrnproduction and saving costs; it also anticipates the enablementrnof a holistic approach that will optimize field development atrnthe asset level.
