FLASHING FIELDS! A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

Large localized discrepancies are observed betweenrnmeasurements made by ASAR and by the ERS-2 AMI,rnwithin 30 minutes of each other over Flevoland, NL.rnThe discrepancies appear to be related to fine details ofrnthe observing geometries of the two instruments,rnspecifically the relative Doppler centroids of the tworninstruments. There is little awareness of such sensitivityrnand it is not predicted by the models for microwaverninteraction usually applied to soils and vegetation. Thernobjective of the present investigation is to improvernunderstanding of the phenomenon and examinernstrategies to mitigate its effects.
