The isotopic composition of stratospheric water vapourrndepends on the sources of water vapour and the temperaturernand precipitation history of the stratosphericrnair. Isotopic measurements therefore have potential tornaid invesigation of dehydration in the polar vortex, ofrnstratospheric/tropospheric exchange, of upward transportrnin the tropics and of subsidence at polar latitudes.rnHere we compare measurements of H162O, HDO andrnH182O from two satellite limb-sounding instruments:rnthe Michelson Interferometer for Passive AtmosphericrnSounding (MIPAS), an infra-red limb sounder on Envisat,rnand the Sub-Millimetre Radiometer (SMR), arnmicrowave limb sounder on board the Odin satellite.
