A new concept antenna, the reconfigurable antenna is proposed and a method to realize the pattern reconfigurable antenna using genetic algorithms (GAs) is presented. Given a frequency, genetic algorithms would search one of the patterns that the antenna might produce. The pattern would meet of be similar to what was required. In other words, the signal strength was the maximum of the antenna could receive for given a frequency. In this way, the pattern required could be gotten, and this kind antenna is called the pattern reconfigurable antenna. The computer simulation results indicated that the proposed method was feasible.
