Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology is defined as any wireless transmission scheme that occupies a −10 dB bandwidth of more than 20 percent of a center frequency, or more than 500 MHz. FCC has assigned a frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz for operating UWB systems. In designing a UWB antenna, it is important to know the parameters such as the bandwidth for return loss below −10dB. It is also important to know what kind of time domain signals can be transmitted and received with minimum distortion, since the UWB antenna is meant to transmit or receive impulse signals. Even if a UWB antenna has a wide frequency bandwidth of matching, it does not guarantee the impulse signal would be received within such a frequency bandwidth.
