AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A METERING NIP IN A METERING SIZE PRESS

The results of pressure profile measurements in the metering nip of the film transfer coating process are analyzed. The pressure profile measurements were performed with different components, solids content, and viscosity of the coating suspension. In addition the speed of the transfer roll and the loading of the metering rod were varied. An experimental correlation for the metered film amount at the surface of the transfer roll was determined using dimensional analysis and the results of the pressure profile measurements.
