摘要

The experimental observation and scientific quantitative characterization of three-dimensional microstructure morphology of materials lie in the core of materials science and engineering.Also, sometimes they are very difficult to carry out, full of challenges while indispensable. To give a general picture of this important and challenging field, the basic concepts and ideas, research methodology, development of new techniques and applications, problems and posible approaches to solve them are discussed in this review article first, then some suggestions for the developing strategy this science branch in China are given.
