摘要

The paper describes five large scale stub-column tests performed on partially-encased composite columns made with thin-walled built-up H steel shapes stiffened with transverse links. Failure of the specimens occurred by local buckling of the flanges along with concrete crushing. The study shows that a closer link spacing and the use of additional reinforcement improve the post-peak behaviour of the columns. The test results are compared with previous studies on smaller specimens and modifications are proposed to existing equations for accounting for local buckling in the prediction of the axial load capacity of this column system.
