The modulating index (m) can be increased towards unity to increase the amplitude of fundamental voltage on the AC side of Five-phase Voltage Source Inverter having PWM control technique, without reaching over modulating area. For the star connected load, if the modulating index is considered as unity and inverter input DC voltage as Vdc, then the maximum amplitude of the fundamental component of phase voltage is half of inverter input DC voltage. With the use of 5th harmonic injected (FHISPWM) sinusoidal wave as a reference wave, the amplitude of the fundamental component of output voltage can be around 6.18 percent higher than for a sinusoidal reference wave (SPWM).
