A Portable Demonstration 12V-75 W Fuel Cell Generator

A portable demonstration fuel cell generator has been designed and built at ENEA's CRC, making use of a NUVERA 150 W PEM stack. The system is fully automatic, having a miniature PLC which controls start-ups, shut-downs and emergencies; the stack is air cooled, fuelled with hydrogen from a 200 bar bottle to the anode electrode and with ambient air to the cathode, from a volumetric compressor. Test experiments are reported; system performance exhibits a 25% overall efficiency when operated at nominal conditions, 5.5 A@13,5 V.
