PREPARATION OF POLYSTYRENE NANOCOMPOSITES CONTAINING PHOSPHORUS FLAME RETARDANT BY ONE-STEP SUSPENSION POLYMERIZATION

Flame retardanted polystyrene nanocomposites were prepared by one-step suspension polymerization of styrene.Triphenyl phosphate (TPP) and bisphenol A bis (diphenyl phosphate)(BDP) which was soluble in styrene were chosen as FRs.Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) results demonstrated that TPP and BDP had already been incorporated into polystyrene beads by suspension polymerization.Scanning electron microscope (SEM)uncovered homogeneous nano-size distribution of TPP and BDP in the polystyrene beads.In addition,the molecular weight of polystyrene nanocomposites decreased and the polydisperse index (PDI) became large a little due to existence of TPP and BDP.
