Geotrax has developed a tracking system for the recovery of stolen currency. This system is being deployed in various applications across the country and enables local and federal law enforcement agencies to quickly determine the location of cash in real-time after it has been taken from a site. The tracking device uses a unique combination of tracking technologies to aid law enforcement in their pursuit and apprehension of the stolen money. To date this system has been used in over 30 robberies with a recovery rate of over 73%. These results rival other, more mature, technologies which have a similar rate for recovering money but a far lower success rate for capturing suspects. This remarkable result can be attributed to three primary factors: 1) direct involvement of law enforcement; 2) multiple location technologies in the tracking device; and 3) the public perception that such tracking capability is not possible in a small self-contained package. This paper will discuss technology used in the tracking device and the system used to monitor it. This paper will also provide arnsummary of the success of our law-enforcement partners using this system to apprehend suspects as well as describe some of the more interesting recovery anecdotes.
