CHOOSING FABRIC BEARING SURFACES

The stationary bearing surfaces that support a forming fabric, such as foils and suction box covers, perform a crucial role in the successful operation of the paper machine wet end. Any material chosen for a fabric bearing surface must first be capable of performing its own design task, such as foiling or doctoring, and resist wear well enough to maintain its functional shape for a useful product life. Secondly, each surface must not significantly shorten the life of the forming fabric or increase the paper machine drive load unless some other dramatic benefits are also being obtained.
