Domain modelling: strategic, tactical and operational resource management

In this contribution to the symposium in honour of the work of Tony Hoare, on the occasion of his retirement from Oxford, we examine and illustrate programming methodological issues of domain modelling―an activity we see as logically, if not temporally, preceding those of requirements engineering and software design. The main body of the paper is an example. This example allows us to illustrate four different things: (ⅰ) domain modelling; (ⅱ) strategic, tactical and operational resource management; (ⅲ) an interface between computing science and operations research; and (ⅳ) a spectrum of software―from decision support software to algorithmic software.
