This paper will cover the case study of a Westinghouse, 496 MVA hydrogen inner-cooled generator stator's core problem. The unit is located at the City Public Service owned JT Deely plant in San Antonio, Texas. Items discussed in this paper include CPS' experience with loose cores, EL CID testing, Loop testing, and concerns with extending intervals between generator inspections. The primary interest of this paper is to discuss the continued operation of a stator core that according to testing criteria should not be capable of operation.
