These data demonstrate that selected amendments can enhance biodegradation of fuel aromatic hydrocarbons under denitrifying conditions. Further research is required to not only optimize nitrate-based bioremediation, but to determine whether other amendments or electron-acceptor combinations could be used to provide for enhanced metabolic diversity and therefore increase the number of compounds which can be degraded. These data also show that biodegradation is an important component in contaminant removal under these conditions, and can account for most of the contaminant mass loss under selected conditions.
