There is an increasing interest by electric utility companies in the United States to develop marketing programs for coal combustion by-products (CCBs). Information needed to advance these marketing programs includes an assessment of the potential beneficial use markets for CCBs, and specifically, the fair market share each company can expect to capture. A Geographical Information System (GIS) model was developed to estimate Virginia Power's fair market share of selling fly ash as a pozzolan (i.e., a cement replacement) in the production of ready-mix concrete. The model's components and its use at one power station are discussed.
