The evaluation/characterization of support conditions is important to estimate the fitness for ser vice and for life prediction of pavements. This is particularly improtant at the pavements. Sample pavements with different types of supports were fabricated and tested using a modified version of the Impact-Echo method. Preliminary results show significant differences among the different type of support conditions. Furthermore, current results also appear to indicate that this modified version of the Impact-Echo(IE) method has high potential of being used to evaluate diffuse damage (i.e., damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles, impact and fatigue damage, etc.) in the pavement system.
