The FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar is often used to measure range, but its range resolution is limited by frequency sweep bandwidth. This paper introduces a new technique of improving the range measurement resolution of the FMCW radar by employing the phase information of the radar echo signal, thus extremely high range resolution can be acheved. The effect of the antenna's beam width is also discussed.
