Architectural Considerations for LAN/B-ISDN Interconnection

This paper discus.sea the interconnection of LAN and ATM based Broadband ISDN.Firstly,the interworking and standardization of B-ISDN are briefly introduced.Then,some issues in relation with the internetworking are discussed.One of the challenges of interconection is that B-ISDN based onAsychronous Transfer Mode is connection oriented,whereas the LAN provide connectionless service.Two methods to support CL services in ATM have been considered.After some discussion about the two methods, we propose a modified methods considering the architecture of LAN/ B-ISDN Interworking system. Emulated ATM LAN is introduced to bridge the gap hetween IEEE 802 LAN and ATM based B-ISDN.
