We investigated high-field space-charge behavior mainly in oxidized XLPE doped with antioxidant. Peculiar packet-like space charge was observed. The conclusions are summarized as follows.rn1) Packet-like space-charge formation and transportation is repeatedly observed in oxidized XLPE doped with antioxidant above 1.2 MV/cm.rn2) The packet-like space-charge behavior is accompanied by oscillatory conduction current.rn3) Measurements on various samples suggested that deteriorated antioxidant plays an important role in the charge packet formation.rn4) Periodical field enhancement in the bulk and subsequent charge dissociation is likely to be responsible for the charge-packet formation.rnFurther study is required to clarify the mechanism of this peculiar packet-like space-charge behavior and its effects on conduction and breakdown phenomena.
