New Telecom Argentina SDH Network: Performances of the First High Speed Optical Network in South America

This paper presents the main features of the Telecom Argentina long distance SDH network, including a general description of the system architecture and of the synchronization network. It also examines the origin of phase quantization in the SDH network and shows how phase quantization noise due to pointer justifications can rise to disturb voice and data service. Some measurement results performed on the wide Telecom Argentina SDH network and on digital exchanges are reported.
