DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF SINGLE SIDE BAND (SSB) OPTICAL MODULATOR

摘要

The Single Side Band (SSB) optical modulator[l] is a versatile device which can be used to encode microwave signals onto an optical carrier as a frequency shift. It can also be used as a reference frequency source to synchronize all the antenna elements of a phased array antenna[2] to a master oscillator. This paper concentrates on the design and fabrication of the various components of a SSB optical modulator. The material used is x-cut, Mg-doped, Lithium Niobate (LiNbO_3). The optical modulators are fabricated using the annealed proton exchange technique.
