A fuzzy-logic-based roll controller design is presented for theexperimental advanced technology wing (ATW). The ATW integrated activecontrols with flexible structural dynamics for enhanced performance. Theauthors initially designed and tested controllers using classicalcontrol design concepts, but the high level of model uncertainties andthe many approximations in the real-time system dynamics led them toinvestigate a fuzzy-logic-based system. The design, performancesimulation, controller performance, and stability analysis of the fuzzycontroller are described. The stability analysis considers acontinuous-time dynamic model combined with a discrete-time fuzzycontroller. An energy-based technique using Lyapunov theory is thenapplied. The analysis shows that the control system is stable
