Efficient channel coding techniques for satellite mobile multimedia systems using synchronous CDMA

In this paper the performance of Multilevel Trellis Coded Modulations (MTCM) for satellite mobile multimedia systems using synchronous CDMA is investigated. First, a model for the multiple access interference arising from the non-orthogonality of the spreading waveforms is developed assuming different modulation and spreading schemes and transmission over the mobile satellite channel. This model allows the assessment of the MTCM schemes under imperfect power control conditions and to highlight the impact of the inaccuracies in the user synchronisation procedure on the transmission error rate.
