The strategic importance for companies active on the Internet to have good domain names is no longer to be demonstrated. In parallel with this evolution, the deregulation of the management of domaing names is now well advanced. This in turn entails that we are witnessing a raise in the volume of transactions whereas the management mechanisms do not scale up because they always necessitate human intervention to ensure a minimal level of security. In this paper we introduce a new concept for domain name trading in which the domain name appears as a true tradable commodity. The concept is implemented by an agent-based system called DNX. We be applied in the general case of assigned names and numbers, which extends the discourse to subjects outside the management of Internet.
