Widening of the A12 Motorway and the Pont du Diable Overpass

This project is a remarquable example of the construction requirements which are specified in urban areas where both railway and motorway traffic cannot be disturbed anytime. In fact the development of the Paris suburb and the daily traffic of commuting people are increasing. The A12 motorway was 2 x 2 lanes. A widening to 2 x 4 lanes was needed. The railway overpass at Bois d'Arcy carries two tracks running from Paris to Normandie. The goal was to carry out the works while keeping running the traffic on the motorway constantly. Only once the railway traffic could be stopped - six hours - at night. Heavy penalties should be applied if these requirements were not met.
