The New York State Information Exchange Network (IEN); A Regional and Statewide Backbone to Facilitate Interagency Coordination

This paper describes the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT)Information Exchange Network (IEN) being developed to satisfy NYSDOT regional andstatewide needs for information sharing and access. The integration is being accomplishedunder a series of contracts from the NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Thebroad objectives of the project are to deploy a standards-based network for connecting thediverse statewide information systems responsible for public safety, traffic management, andpublic works. The IEN deployment has evolved over a period of 4 years.
