In the acousto-ultrasonic technique, a broadband ultrasonic wave is injected ontornthe surface at one location of the tested plate with the help of a longitudinalrntransducer and a receiving transducer is coupled to the same surface at anotherrnlocation. Thus, understanding the propagation characteristics of the ultrasonic wavernis essential for successful application of the technique. In this paper, it has beenrnfound that the dominant acousto-ultrasonic waves produced experimentally in thinrnplate were multi-mode Lamb waves. The broadband generation and detection of Lambrnwaves has been performed in aluminum plate and laminatd composite plate using thernacousto-ultrasonic method.
